Localities, forms of sodalite and history:

Sodalite is found in many places around the world. However, the most significant localities are Canada, Brazil, Namibia, Russia and the USA.

In nature, sodalite occurs in the form of isometric crystals. These are often very small. It is also not uncommon to find it in the form of masses of varying size, spots or veins in rock. In any case, natural sodalite has very strong properties and is used in many fields. On the Mohs scale, its hardness is 5.5 to 6.

The history of sodalite dates back to ancient Egypt and Greece, where it was used to make jewellery, statues and ritual objects. In Egypt, it was highly valued for its protective properties. In Greece, it was nicknamed "stenos" or also "the blue stone". It was also a very important mineral in Persia, where it was used to make luxury jewellery.

Sodalite is also often polished and cut into various shapes, such as spheres, hearts, flowers and more. These are then set as cut stones into settings, creating beautiful rings and earrings. Sodalite is also often combined with other stones, such as white agate.

This stone is also used to make figurines, statuettes, wooden or metal jewellery boxes, buttons, or decorative tiles and reliefs.
