Rose quartz is associated with love and romance. It symbolises loving energy that is transmitted into the space and to its wearer. Its colour is soft pink, ranging from pale to medium pink, from nearly translucent to opaque. It is traditionally linked to Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, beauty, passion and attraction. It reportedly has a calming effect. It is believed to help release pent-up emotions and support emotional wellbeing. According to astrology, it supports the ability to give and receive love unconditionally.
People also seek it out for its reportedly supportive effect on self-acceptance. In alternative medicine it is used mainly in meditation practices to bring about inner peace and calm. It is believed that rose quartz helps its wearer connect more deeply with themselves and their desires. It strengthens intuition and encourages harmony on the spiritual path. It is thus very often regarded as the stone of unconditional love and associated with compassion, empathy and emotional healing after heartbreak.
There are three types of rose quartz. They differ not only in colour but also in their characteristic properties and different effects. These include:
Matte rose quartz is associated with calm, harmony and balance. It reportedly reduces stress, calms the mind and supports emotional stability. According to astrology, it symbolises love and tenderness, as well as emotional openness. People also seek it out for its reportedly supportive effect on self-acceptance and self-love. It strengthens relationships and fosters a loving environment. It is also often associated with overcoming emotional trauma and anxiety.

The largest source of rose quartz is Brazil. Other significant localities include Madagascar, South Africa and the USA.
In nature, rose quartz occurs in the form of six-sided shapes of various sizes, as well as amorphous fragments or grains, and in rose-like shapes, arranged into floral patterns or geodes. In every case, natural rose quartz reportedly has very strong properties, for which it is widely used in many fields. On the Mohs scale, its hardness corresponds to 7.
The history of rose quartz goes back thousands of years. In ancient Egypt, for example, it was considered a symbol of love and beauty. It was used not only in jewellery-making but also in pharaohs' tombs. In ancient Greece and Rome it was associated with love and emotional relationships. In the Middle Ages it was used for its protective properties as an amulet against illness and for love. In the Renaissance it was very popular in jewellery-making. This has remained the case to this day.
According to an old Greek legend, rose quartz was linked to love and originated from the passion of Eros, the god of love. Legend has it that Eros, heartbroken from unrequited love, shot himself with his own arrow, and drops of his blood fell onto a white stone, turning it into rose quartz.
Rose quartz is very popular in jewellery-making. It is used to make necklaces of various sizes and shapes, combined with other gemstones and small beads. These necklaces are elegant and romantic. Bracelets for the wrist and ankle are also popular, where rose quartz is used either on its own or combined with other stones. Earrings tend to be small and give rose quartz jewellery a touch of style and incredible elegance. The same applies to rings.
Last but not least, rose quartz is used to make amulets and talismans, as well as figurines, reliefs, lamps, pipes, boxes, buttons or home decorations.
