Blue feldspar is found at many localities around the world. The most significant deposits, however, are in Chile, Peru, India, Madagascar and the USA.

Synthetic blue feldspar, that is, blue feldspar of laboratory origin, is manufactured artificially from substances used in the production of glass and ceramics. Synthetic blue feldspar thus resembles the natural stone but is much cheaper and easily available. Its properties, if you believe in its power, are not particularly diminished as a result. On the Mohs hardness scale it rates 5.5 to 6.

The history of natural blue feldspar goes back to antiquity, when this mineral was highly valued for its beauty. It was thus often used to make jewellery and decorative objects. The Egyptians believed in the protective properties of this stone and made talismans from it. The ancient Greeks believed that blue feldspar supported love and passion and had aphrodisiac properties. It was therefore worked into jewellery intended to attract this deep feeling. It was particularly used in the Baroque period for making rich and extravagant jewellery.
