Classic jewellery enamel are a colourful cherry on top of metal. Enameling is one of the oldest art techniques of painting metals. It was used by ancient cultures, for example, beautifully decorated jewellery from Egypt is well known. It’s a layer of enamel on metal, be it gold, silver or copper. We offer powder jewellery enamel that gets sprinkled onto a metal base or applied by brush after wetting. In the range, there’s a whole scale of transparent enamels, meaning see-through ones, and opaque (covering) ones, including translucent clear bases. Enamel is applied onto copper (or silver as well as Art Clay Silver) and it gets fired in a kiln for several minutes at the temperature around 750 °C. After firing, the colour is bright, vibrant and withstands normal handling, including soaking in water. Colourful enamel is colourfast and durable on metal after firing. It can only be broken by impact or other rough handling, just like glass.
