Localities, forms of fluorite and history:

Purple fluorite can be found mainly in China, Mexico and South Africa. However, the USA and Canada are no exception either.

In nature, purple fluorite occurs in the form of cubic crystals of various sizes. It can also be found in the form of crystalline aggregates, where individual crystals cluster into larger shapes and patterns. Druses are no exception either. The reported effects of natural purple fluorite are said to be very strong, which is why it is used across various fields. On the Mohs hardness scale, it corresponds to 4.

Purple fluorite was already a very popular stone in ancient Egypt and Greece. In Egypt it was used as an amulet against evil forces. The Greeks, meanwhile, believed that fluorite had positive effects on knowledge. In the 16th century it became a favourite in England for its quality and beautiful colour. Three centuries later, in the same place, it became popular in metallurgy and metal mining for its high calcium content, which helped remove impurities.

Did you know that?

fluorite is a naturally occurring mineral that strengthens tooth enamel and reduces the risk of tooth decay? It is said to form a more resistant and stronger layer that protects teeth from damage caused by decay and acids. Based on these facts, it is used in toothpastes and mouthwashes.
