Angelite (angelite 3A) is associated with communication and self-expression. It reportedly helps with both verbal communication and expressing emotions. It has a light blue to blue-white colour, which can vary slightly in shade. Some angelites can be purely white, while others show various shades of blue to deep blue. According to Gnostic teaching, it is traditionally linked to Sophia, the goddess of wisdom, communication and intuition. In astrology, angelite is said to have protective properties and to help clear negative energies.

People also seek it out because it is said to help open and strengthen spiritual connection. It reportedly enables contact with higher dimensions and supports the development of intuition. In alternative medicine, it is used to clear energy blockages, remove negative influences from the external environment, and reduce stress, anxiety and tension. It reportedly has calming and harmonising properties. Angelite is widely used in meditation and spiritual work. It is said to help open and strengthen spiritual connection, thereby enabling contact with higher dimensions.

The main locality of angelite is Peru. Other important localities include Mexico, South Africa, the USA and Germany.

In nature, angelite is found in the form of crystals, spherical or grape-like aggregates, or sedimentary layers. The reported properties of natural angelite are very strong. It is therefore no surprise that these minerals are used across many fields. On the Mohs hardness scale, it rates 3–3.5. It is thus classed among minerals with lower hardness.

The ancient Egyptians already believed that angelite was able to support spiritual communication, and so they carried it in the form of an amulet. They also associated it with protective properties. In ancient Greece and Rome too, it was recognised for its spiritual qualities. It was first classified as a mineral in the 18th century.

It is said that angelite was discovered in Peru, near the city of Lima, where ancient ruins of a city called the Angel City are found today. The local inhabitants reportedly believed that whoever entered this city would hear the whispering of angels.

What is angelite used for and what can you make from it?

Angelite has a very delicate appearance and a pleasant blue colour, which is why it is popular in jewellery making, where it brings elegance to jewellery. It is often worked as the main stone in necklaces, sometimes also in combination with other stones. Bracelets are made from angelite beads, often combined with metals or other minerals. Small angelite stones are used to make earrings, as well as rings.

Angelite is also used to make figurines and statuettes, vases, buttons, beads and pearls, as well as energy pouches, which can be placed in various spots around a room to harmonise energy.
