Localities, forms of amethyst and history:

Amethyst is found at various localities almost all over the world. However, the most important locality is Brazil, followed by Uruguay, Zambia, Madagascar and the USA.

Natural amethyst often occurs in the form of crystals with pyramidal or druse shapes, and geodes are not uncommon either. It is generally known that natural amethysts reportedly enhance energy transfer, as well as their effects. The designation 2A denotes high quality with minimal impurities and cracks. In terms of hardness, it rates 7 on the Mohs scale.

The ancient Egyptians used amethyst to make jewellery and decorative objects more than 4,000 years ago. In ancient Greece, it was considered a stone that protects against drunkenness and intoxication. It was often used in rituals associated with Dionysus, the god of wine. The Romans used it to make coronation jewels. It symbolised prestige and wealth. In the Middle Ages, it was considered a symbol of virtue and humility.

Brooches are no exception either. It is often combined with diamonds, topazes, zircons or other types of stones. It is one of the stones that are very popular for making luxury jewellery.
