Localities, forms of rhodonite and history:

Rhodonite occurs in many places around the world, but the most significant localities include Russia, South Africa, India, Brazil and the USA.

In nature, rhodonite occurs as crystals of various sizes in the shape of a hexagonal prism. Often, however, it also has an irregular shape. Rhodonite is also found as a fine-grained to massive aggregate. In any case, natural black veined rhodonite has very strong reported properties, which can be applied in many ways. On the Mohs scale it has a hardness of 5.5–6.5.

The history of rhodonite, especially black veined rhodonite, goes back to antiquity. In Greece and Rome it was used for its protective properties in the making of amulets. In the 19th century it was used in Germany in the ceramics industry for making glazes. The Russians used it to make ornamental objects and jewellery.
