Olivine (peridot) is associated with harmony and balance, both in the outer world and within the inner self. It reportedly symbolises the connection between body, mind and spirit, bringing its wearer a sense of wholeness and stability. It is green to greenish-yellow in colour, sometimes in darker, brownish shades. Olivine with a higher magnesium content, by contrast, is lighter and greener. This mineral is not associated with any specific goddess. According to astrology, it has protective properties and is used to ward off negative energies and evil forces. Olivine is found in many places around the world, but its most significant locality is Hawaii. Other important localities include Scandinavia, particularly Norway, Antarctica, Germany, Africa and the Indian Ocean.

In nature, olivine occurs in the form of crystals of various shapes and sizes, such as tablets, pyramids or columns and rhombs, ranging from microscopic to larger sizes. Grains, layers and veins are not uncommon either. Natural olivine reportedly has very strong properties. On the Mohs scale, it corresponds to a hardness of 6.5–7.

The history of olivine dates back to ancient times. The ancient Egyptians already made jewellery and statues from olivine, while in ancient Greece it was regarded as a symbol of the Sun and health, and was also used in architecture. In the Middle Ages, it was used to decorate coronation jewels. In the 19th century, it was also discovered as a component of meteorites.

there is a so-called Olivine Beach in Hawaii? It is located on the coast of Papakolea Island. Its sand is largely made up of olivine grains, which give the sand its greenish colour. Collecting these olivine grains is prohibited, however, in order to preserve the uniqueness of this environment.

In the jewellery industry, olivine is used to make beautiful jewellery with an impressive green colour that appeals to many wearers. Olivine is used mainly to make rings, bracelets and necklaces.
