Blue aventurine is found in many places around the world. The largest locality is India, followed by Brazil, Russia, South Africa and the USA.

In nature, blue aventurine occurs in the form of crystalline aggregates or small crystals. It is also often found in the form of mineral inclusions within rocks, of various sizes and shapes. Natural blue aventurine reportedly has very strong properties. It is therefore used across many fields around the world. On the Mohs scale it corresponds to a hardness of 6.5 to 7.

The history of blue aventurine dates back to ancient times, when it was used mainly as a decorative element. In Greece it was considered a symbol of luck. It was associated with the god of love, Eros. For the Romans it played a key role in the production of jewellery and statues. It was also a meaningful symbol for the Chinese. The Chinese valued it for its reportedly protective properties and associated it with the green dragon, which represented power and prosperity to them. Chinese emperors and wealthy aristocrats therefore wore jewellery and ornaments made of blue aventurine in the belief that it would bring them luck and success.
