Aquarelle paints (sometimes also called water paints) are soluble in water and they’re most often used for painting on paper or on canvas. They usually don’t 100% cover but it’s possible to make countless shades and colour combinations by intermixing different colours, colour layers and water. Professional aquarelle paints differ from the classic school water paints in that they are usually made from higher quality pigments and they also contain other components that prevent the painting from cracking after drying up. However, working with them is very similar to working with water paints that we know from our school days.
